Beauty Is A Universal Language

I am in Hong Kong this week, facilitating an Inner Circle at TBWA's offices here and attending a few other business meetings as well.  The Inner Circle group is terrific, representing a wide diversity of businesses and cultures.

In Central Hong Kong today I passed a store window in the IFC Center (one of the showplace office towers here that houses a world class shopping arcade including a spectacular multi story Apple store) with shop windows dedicated to The Swan Lake ballet.  The store sells women's shoes, particularly ballet flats, so perhaps that explains the gorgeous Swan Lake reference.

Whatever the store manager's reasoning, the two tutus shown in the window are genuine costumes worn by ballerinas dancing the White Swan role.  They are covered in feathers and pearls and are extraordinary.  I stood for a while to think of how they would impress any little girl from anywhere in the world who has ever fantasized about being a ballerina.  And for those who have never heard of ballet or Swan Lake, I guarantee you they would instantly recognize these costumes are examples of a kind of special feminine beauty. 

No words need be spoken...just a few bars of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake music and these costumes would come alive in everyone's imagination...clothing the ballerina in the ultimate of loveliness.  We all understand that language...
