I'm thinking of the machinations sportswriters resort to in reporting on The Heat and The Thunder, two basketball teams in the NBA playoffs.
A BirdsEyeView reader sent me the link to this excellent piece by Tom Scocca on the Dealspin site. Remember the kids who preferred sports trivia to English class? (In my high school, most of them!) This would have been a good article to get their attention.
No one says it better than Tom Scocca: a guy who knows sports and grammar. Wow!,
Author of I is for Intercourse: The ABC's of Conversation, Susan Bird is the visionary behind Wf360, and a sought-after speaker around the world for her views on leadership, the strategic importance of conversation, entrepreneurship, and the role of women business leaders.
Great post! I love how Tom Scocca managed to turn the oh so exciting Finals into the use of proper language... I never realized how weird it was to say "The Heat ARE..." until now.
