How cool is this? Do you know about the Intrepid Museum in New York City? One of the truly fab things about New York, the Intrepid battleship is moored on the West Side where it operates as a museum dedicated to air and sea exploits of the US military, especially the US Navy and Marines.
Adults love to go there and see all the historic stuff that tells the tale of the Second World War and conflicts since then as well. And kids go crazy to see the planes, some of which they can sit in and imagine themselves piloting right off the end of the carrier.
My husband loves it. He's a Marine who was an officer in Vietnam and hasn't stopped being a Marine. Since he's now working at the Pentagon in some muckety muck position, he has VIP passes for the two of us to join some smallish group (we'll see just how exclusive this smallish group is when we get there) among the larger group of 3000 people who paid to get tickets to watch the fireworks Macy's will set off in the Hudson not far from the ship.
So I imagine the view from the deck will be awesome.
And of course I'll think of my sister and let her know that even in New York we are toasting her on her Fourth of July birthday, the lucky dog. Just imagine if you knew that every time your birthday rolls around, it's a holiday. Yes, I'm still jealous.
